A sunrise surprise proposal in Costa Brava: Tameet & Mahneet, part two

From Calella de Palafrugell to Pals

We continued in Pals with the light outfits Tameet and Mahneet had worn for the proposal. The white and sand tones worked beautifully with the warm stone, pale façades and greenery of the medieval village.

This part of the Pals couple photoshoot began on the way towards the historic centre. We found a vintage white car on one of the streets and included it in a few photographs. From there, we stopped beside a tall stone wall and continued towards a small garden filled with vivid bougainvillea. I photographed the couple together, created several individual portraits of Mahneet and captured the details of her outfit.

Stone arches and medieval streets

From the church, we followed the cobbled lanes deeper into the old town. Our route passed beneath stone vaults and through narrow archways. The sun was already high, and these passages gave us soft shade with occasional shafts of light.

I used the arches as natural frames and chose positions where the light reached Tameet and Mahneet’s faces. They walked slowly beneath the vaults, paused beside the walls and turned towards each other. For several photographs, I included the full shape of the passage to preserve its depth and scale.

Mirador Josep Pla

Our route through medieval Pals led us to Mirador Josep Pla. The viewpoint overlooks the Empordà plain, with the Montgrí massif and the Medes Islands in the distance.

I photographed Tameet and Mahneet walking beside the low stone wall and created wider compositions with the landscape behind them. We then moved beneath the trees for a seated series. Before leaving, I photographed their hands and the engagement ring among small red flowers.

The final photographs in Pals

On our way back through the old centre, we paused at a café table. This gave Tameet and Mahneet time to sit together and talk while I photographed the natural gestures and expressions between the more directed portraits.

We completed the Pals session in the sunlit streets nearby. Light entered between the stone buildings in narrow sections, which worked especially well for walking photographs and portraits with movement.

A second look in Begur

After Pals, we drove to Begur, where Tameet and Mahneet changed into their planned second look. Mahneet chose a floor-length red dress, while Tameet wore a black suit with a white shirt and red pocket square.

I had already included time and a comfortable place for changing in our schedule. The Begur couple photoshoot began in the same location, using its white walls, cacti, patio and staircase.

I started with portraits beside the wall, then photographed the couple from above. The staircase gave us several angles, and the movement of Mahneet’s dress added variety to the series.

Stone steps and the red dress

At a small stone terrace with steps and a carved column, I used the different levels to create several vertical compositions. Tameet and Mahneet first stood together, then Mahneet walked across the terrace so the dress could move freely.

The breeze lifted the skirt and created some of the most dynamic photographs from the second look. I also made another close-up of the engagement ring against the red fabric.

Torre Pella i Forgas

We photographed the final part of the day around Plaça Pella i Forgas. The round Torre Pella i Forgas is a historic defence tower and an unmistakable feature of this part of Begur.

I included the entire tower in several vertical compositions, then moved closer and used its stonework and ivy as the background. We finished beside a large wooden door with traditional metal details.

How I planned the rest of the surprise proposal

As a Costa Brava surprise proposal photographer, I planned the full route from Calella de Palafrugell to Pals and Begur in advance. Tameet and I discussed the overall idea together, and I selected the locations, mapped the walking routes and included time for driving, short breaks and the outfit change.

For the proposal itself, I recommended sunrise in Calella de Palafrugell. The early start gave us soft light, a clear background and privacy for the main moment. In Pals, I selected stone arches and narrow lanes that retain useful shade as the sun rises. In Begur, I prepared a compact route through the centre that worked well with the second look.

Throughout the day, I monitored the light, the number of people around us and the couple’s pace. When a planned spot was occupied, we continued along a nearby street and returned when it became available. Tameet and Mahneet could enjoy the day while I adjusted the route and timing.
